Sight Reading

The KG Sight Reading Event is an ongoing event - meaning that when a student is ready to pass off a sight reading level, they will be instructed to call an official tester and make an appointment to pass off their sight reading.

Lists of requirements for each level are found in the teacher manual and practice tests are available to participating teachers to determine the appropriate level to place students.

More than one level may be passed in a year but students cannot repeat levels if they have received a passing score of 7.0 or higher.

Upon completion, the tester is to make a copy of the Sight Reading Critique Sheet. The student leaves the testing site with the original comment sheet and the copy is sent to the coordinator. All Sight Reading testing must be completed by the designated deadline in May.

Teachers are encouraged to use any method of Sight Reading books or flash cards they deem helpful to prepare students for this test. For greater effectiveness, teachers should attend a KG Technic & Sight Reading Training session prior to participating in these events. If you were unable to make the sessions offered in August and September, please About Us for additional information.
